Sicily – The mysterious island - Program 3

Day 1: La Dolce Vita in Aci Castello

We will pick you up at Catania Airport late in the afternoon and bring you to your hotel in nearby Aci Castello. Although it is autumn in Northern Europe, here you can enjoy the warmth of the generous hotel pool or the patio directly next to the sea. You meet your fellow travellers and the escort team during a sightseeing tour of Catania where we will dine in a selected old town restaurant.

Day 2: On the sides of Mt. Etna

After breakfast we present you with your Alfa Romeo convertible. You are briefed on the car and on the easy to understand roadbook which includes all driving stages. Today’s focus is the volcano. The first stage towards Mt. Etna leads through orange and lemon groves. The peak of »Mongibello« (arab./ital. »Mountain«), the snow covered volcano, is often shrouded in mist. Europe’s highest, 3.300 meters, and most active volcano is number one in the world in terms of eruptions. Newly built are the sweeping serpentines on the »Cantoniere d’Etna« pass from where you can gaze far out to sea. You’ll be amazed in the evening by the Sicilian cuisine.

Day 3: The original Sicily

Spectacular describes today’s stage through the Valle dell’Alcantara. You drive along solitary mountain roads, past vineyards. You experience Sicily off the beaten track: lonely villages where time seems to stand still, where 30 year old cars are still in daily use and street lighting is from the Sixties. Extraordinary photo oppor-tunities await you everywhere. And tonight’s dinner is an insider tip – true to the maxim »delicacies from Neptune’s Garden«.

Day 4: Taormina and the Ancient World

Although international fashion brands have long moved into the mansions in the old town, there is still a sophisticated hint of the Fifties in Taormina than anywhere else in Italy. A sightseeing tour of the town familiarizes you with the history of the, in Greek antiquity important, settlement on Monte Tauro with its famous Greek-Roman theatre and enviable panorama. The last kilometres along the Ionic Sea are also picturesque, then you have to say goodbye to »your« Alfa Romeo and leave for Catania Airport.
