Tuscan Dream Roads - Program 1

Day 1: In an Alfa Romeo through a famous wine-growing district

At lunch in the hotel you meet your fellow travellers and the escort team. We then introduce you to the Nostalgic classic car fleet and explain the roadbook. The first stage leads over lonely country roads so that you get used to »your« Alfa Romeo. There is time for a lap of the hotel pool and a wine-tasting before dinner.

Day 2: Mille Miglia and Crete Senesi

This impressive stage leads, partly on the old Roman road Via Cassia, southwesterly to Siena past Val d’Orcia. Most of today’s itinerary is identical to the legendary Italian automobile race »Mille Miglia«. At lunch you are served with local specialities in a country inn near the old papal town Pienza. The highlight of the afternoon is the Crete Senesi: steep loamy slopes which resemble the moon and a lonesome road running along the ridge. After a varied day of driving you return to the hotel where a typical Tuscan dinner is served.

Day 3: Volterra and the Etruscan

First it is off westwards on a curvy road via Poggibonsi to Volterra. Etruscan and medieval history awaits you in the »City of Wind«, where, if the weather is good, the Tyrrhenian Sea can be seen. During a comprehensive guided tour, you learn about this charming, hardly visited archaic town, away from the tourist-trodden neighbouring San Gimignano. You follow the Cecina river over the »Colline Metallifere«, a typical south-western Tuscan landscape. On the way back to the hotel medieval villages crown the hilltops like swallows nests; the day winds down with a gourmet dinner.

Day 4: Siena

A worthy finish today is the gothic city extraordinaire: Siena, the secret capital of Tuscany. On our art history guided tour of the city you learn more about the Palazzo Pubblico, Piazza del Campo and the Santa Maria Cathedral. Of course you have some free time here before lunching in the Monteriggioni Citadel which was made famous by the Italian poet Dante in his »Divine Comedy«. Then it is time to say farewell to »your« Alfa Romeo.
