Description
Vilaeti Traditional Guesthouse is a lovely guesthouse hidden in the narrow streets of the village, which brings memories of the past to life.
In the Cretan dialect and the folk speech of the people of Lassithi "Vilaeti" means a big room or a wide stretch of land and in free translation it could also mean a wide variety of things. The restoration of the guesthouse was completed like a mosaic work of art. The materials used blended harmonically together. The wood and stone married in such way so as to successfully cover the necessary material of our times, the cement.
The stay in such a museum-like place makes the guest feel relaxed and calm. It is the best opportunity for those who need to loosen up their way of life.
History
Vilaeti is a listed building, which, according to the locals’ accounts, was built around 1815 by local craftsmen based on the traditional architecture and the style of the area. It is prominent due to its fortress-like layout.
Since the 50s this gorgeous building with the characteristics of the early architecture tradition of the 17th century was totally deserted and it was known as "Stavrakonikoli’s ruins".
With respect to tradition and exceptional sensibility all the details of this Cretan Arch-house was restored; the wine-press, the stone oven in the house, the rest for pitchers, the door girders and many more ornaments and utensils of the period.
The arches intact was maintained , the carven stones was cleaned and highlighted and one of the oldest stone ovens of the village was preserved and used again after half a century!!!
Location
The traditional guesthouse "Vilaeti" is located in the village of "Agios Konstantinos" in the gorgeous Lassithi Plateau in Crete!
Lassithi plateau is a dreamy destination in Cretan inland. It is one of the prettiest and greenest areas during spring and summer and the 1500 white windmills, which still make a splendid sight against the mountains, used to break the otherwise green landscape. It lies at an altitude of 850 meters and at the same time not far from the coastal areas of Northeastern Crete.

Guest house Aniforas
The small guesthouse is called "Aniforas" and used to be the place where animals were kept. Aniforas was the name for the chimneys of the fireplaces as well as the name for the ceiling windows, which, back, then, were made of big jars by the local craftsmen.
In the kitchen of "Anifora" guesthouse, you can find a wide range of local products hanging from the ceiling, like little tomatoes, peppers, oregon, garlic and many more that can be used for cooking. In that way not only little goodies are offered to the visitors but also an air of tradition was added in the room. Old type baskets have also been hung from the ceiling, which are also used food storage while an old plate rack has successfully completed the decoration of the room.
Guest House Portego
The big guesthouse, which is called "Portego", consists of the oven room, the wine pressroom and the old barn, which is transformed into a lovely bedroom. The wine press has been transformed into a bed. The space bellow the bed is a storage place for carpets and folding beds. The walls have been decorated with fine, old, hand made Cretan woven textiles, while this special decoration has been completed with hand made, Cretan cushions.
The barn has been altered into a lovely bedroom with the unique detail of the stone ledges, where bronze lamps that lit the wall have been put. Between the ‘Anifora’ guesthouse and the bedroom there is an atrium, a special, detached room where you can enjoy the reading of a book or a relaxing siesta. The oven room is the place the family used for their everyday activities such as the making of bread. The imposing oven reveals the wealth and nobility of the mansion. Stone steps lead to the bedrooms and the ceramic pitchers which stand on rests give the room a remarkable look.
