More than 200 years ago, Burmese troops invading Thalang, as Phuket was then known, landed at Layan Beach on the northwestern coast of the island. The gently sloping beach was in a cove well-protected from the open sea and so secluded from the rest of the island that whole fleets hid there without being detected. Unfortunately for them, however, the brave islanders put up a fight and the attackers were defeated.

Today, Layan Beach is the site of the Layan Beach Phuket Aprime Resort, which takes pride in the fact that although it is only 20 km from the Airport and five km from the nightlife district of Patong Beach, and despite its historic past, ot remains a perfect sanctuary for those in search of rest and recreation away from the madding crowd.
